Meals served on board. DAY 2 Upon arrival in Tel Aviv, we clear passport control, meet our guide, and travel by private motorcoach northeast across Israel to the famous Sea of Galilee (Matthew 4:18-10; Mark 7:31-32). Here in the ancient city of Tiberias (John 21:1-3) we enjoy dinner and retire for our first night in the Holy Land. Tomorrow is a big day! DAY 3 Today’s travel takes us to the furthest limits of northeastern Israel, and it is breathtaking! Along the way we visit where Jesus preached and pronounced a curse upon Chorazin (Matthew 11:21-22; Luke 10:13). Our drive continues to the northern limits of Jesus’s travels, where we combine a nature walk beside the Upper Jordan with views of the ancient ruins of Dan. We then take a leisurely walk along one of the three tributaries of the Jordan River at Banias (Caesarea Philippi), where Peter made his great confession about Jesus (Matthew 16:13-20). After lunch, we drive along the foot of Mount Hermon and ascend onto the Golan Plateau for a magnificent view of Upper Israel. In the afternoon, we travel back towards the Sea of Galilee to the town of Magdala. This hometown of Mary Magdalene (Luke 8:2) was frequently visited by Jesus, and it contains one of the oldest synagogues in the world. We conclude our day at our hotel with dinner and overnight. DAY 4 This morning we sail on a replica wooden boat from Jesus’s day and float where Jesus walked (Matthew 14:22-33)! We also have a chance see the New Testament boat found below the sea. We then proceed on land to view many biblical sites, including the ancient city of Capernaum (Matthew 9:1). We walk the shore of Tabgha (John 21:4-17) and we read the Sermon on the Mount...on the mount itself (Matthew 5-7)! In the afternoon, we travel south from the Sea of Galilee along an often traveled route for Jesus until we arrive at Beit She’an. Here we see evidence of Egyptian, Roman, and Byzantine occupations, as well as ancient architecture and church mosaics. From here, time permitting, we may walk up to the top of Mount Gilboa, where King Saul and his two sons were slain (1 Samuel 31:10-13). Our final stop for the day is the River Jordan (Joshua 3:15-17; 2 Kings 5:10-14), where travelers with a pastor may be baptized in a similar fashion as Jesus was to begin His ministry (Matthew 3:13-17). We then return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 5 This morning we depart westward from the region of the Sea of Galilee and travel through Cana of Galilee, where Jesus performed His first miracle (John 2:1). We continue to Jesus’s childhood town of Nazareth (Luke 1:26-27) and ascend Mount Precipice (Luke 4:29-30) for a panoramic view of the famed Jezreel Valley. We also visit the Mount of Megiddo, where 34 battles have been fought over 4,000 years, with the great final battle yet to come: the battle of Armageddon (Revelation 16:16). From there we travel to Mount Carmel, site of Elijah’s confrontation with the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18). Our day is capped off with a tour of the Mediterranean coast city of Caesarea Maritima and the great Roman Aqueduct from 10 BC (Acts 25:11-14, 23). After our visit to this ancient harbor, we travel up the historic Beth Horon road (Joshua 10:10) to the Benjamin Plateau, passing ancient Gibeon (Joshua 9) and continuing on to Jerusalem (Isaiah 62:1-2). Finally, atop Mount Scopus, we behold majestic Jerusalem. We then check in to our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 6 After breakfast we drive along the Dead Sea and ascend to the ancient fortress of Masada. It is here where Jewish defenders in the first century AD made their last stand in the Judean revolt against Rome. We see the remains of storehouses, cisterns, and a sixth-century Byzantine church. We follow the coast of the Dead Sea, the lowest point in the world at 1,300 feet below sea level. Time permitting, we’ll proceed to the pleasant walking trail of Ein Gedi, where David found refreshment during his escape from King Saul (1 Samuel 24:1-12; Psalm 63). Our tour continues to the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea scrolls were found, the most significant archeological discovery of the 20th century. After lunch we have the opportunity to relax and float in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea. Next we travel to Jericho, the world’s oldest city (Joshua 6; Matthew 20:29-34). From the excavated tel atop the ruins of ancient Jericho we view the lush green Jordan Valley, Elisha’s Spring, and Qarantal, the traditional Mount of Temptation (Matthew 4:1-11). We drive back to our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 7 Following breakfast we take a group photo on the Mount of Olives while enjoying a breathtaking panoramic view of Jerusalem. We then begin retracing the steps of Jesus (Psalm 132:13-14) at Dominus Flevit (“Our Lord Weeps”). Our walk descends the Mount of Olives to the Garden of Gethsemane, where we take time to meditate on the Gospel text of Jesus’s agony and view the Church of All Nations (Matthew 26:36-50). We then enter the Old City and make our way to the Western Wall, the last remaining outer wall of the ancient Jewish temple (Ezra 4:3; John 2:20). We head south along the wall to the Southern Steps where Jesus entered on countless occasions. We continue to Bethlehem and visit one of the possible sites of the Shepherds’ Fields (Luke 2:8-14). We then walk through the restored old town of Bethlehem to the Church of the Nativity, and we visit the manger and see the adjoining cave of Saint Jerome. We drive back to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight. DAY 8 After breakfast, we enter the Old City through the Dung Gate (Jeremiah 19:2) and ascend to the Temple Mount, where the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque are located. This, the holiest of sites in the world, is the location of countless biblical events, including where Abraham was commanded to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22:11-14; 2 Samuel 24:16-25). Walking off the Mount, just to the north, we find the Pool of Bethesda, the perfectly preserved Church of Saint Anne (John 5:1-9), and the start of the Via Dolorosa. Continuing on, we see Pilate’s Judgment Hall, the Chapel of Flagellation, Lithostrotos, and the Arch of Ecce Homo (“Behold the Man”). We follow the movement of Jesus on his pre-crucifixion journey along the Via Dolorosa (John 18:28), winding through the modern day bazaars on our way to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. We go on to Mount Zion (Psalm 125:1) where, time permitting, we’ll visit the Upper Room (Matthew 26:1-129) and the Tomb of King David. We continue to the grounds of a church called Peter in Gallicantu, which affords the best view of early Jerusalem from the west. Here, as some suggest, was the house where the High Priest Caiaphas interrogated Jesus (John 18:19-38). Later, we pay a visit to the Garden Tomb for private communion, prayer, and worship (John 19:38-42; 20:1-10) before returning to our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 9 This morning we begin our journey home, reveling in our unforgettable experiences in the Holy Land. Our hearts are full; we walked in the footsteps of Jesus, and we will never be the same (Numbers 6:24–26). *The trip will take place in case of a group of 16 people * * The route, as well as the order of visiting places, may be changed due to quarantine restrictions, as well as for safety reasons or due to the weather, road repair work etc. Reviews

Upon arrival to the Port of Bandirma, we head to the town of Akhisar to visit ancient Thyatira, one of the Seven Churches praised for its increasing faith but admonished for its tolerance of Jezebel (Rev. 2:18-28). Next, we continue to Sardis, a once powerful city located along an important ancient highway and among the fertile plain of Hermus (Geldiz River). Though Sardis was a strong and wealthy city with a reputation for being alive, God announced that it was actually dead (Rev. 3:1-6). Here, we will explore the white marble royal way, the massive Temple of Artemis, the large gymnasium, and the famous synagogue. Annual archaeological expeditions sponsored by Harvard and Cornell Universities have unearthed over eighty Greek and seven Hebrew inscriptions as well as numerous mosaic floors revealing this synagogue as one of the most significant synagogues of antiquity. Afterwards, we will head to the modern town of Alasehir and visit the site of ancient Philadelphia, the church that received God’s highest commendation (Rev. 3:7-13). Here, we will see the remains of a brick-built Byzantine basilica adorned with 11th century frescoes. Dinner and Overnight in Denizli. DAY 5 Denizli, Pamukkale, Laodicea, Kusadasi This morning, we are off to visit Pamukkale, “Cotton Castle”, and dip our feet in the thermal waters that flow down the hilltop’s unique white travertine terraces. At the summit, we explore the archeological remains of Hierapolis, a significant site of early Christianity thanks to Paul’s missionary efforts here (Colossians 4:13). Because the city sits atop the travertine cascades of Pamukkale (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Hierapolis became a healing center wherein the site’s thermal pools were used to treat various ailments. Today, we will stroll among a number of important ruins including well-preserved Roman structures like the town theatre and Temple of Apollo before continuing on to Laodicea. This city was one of the Seven Churches that the Apostle John chastised the inhabitants for being lukewarm (Rev. 3:14-22). Here, we will see the site’s well-preserved stadium, gymnasium, and theatres, giving us insight into this city’s former prominence. Next, we drive to Kusadasi, a beautiful resort town that sits on the Aegean coast Dinner and Overnight in Kusadasi. DAY 6 Kusadasi, Ephesus, Kusadasi Today, we are off to explore Ephesus. Located in the modern town of Selcuk, ancient Ephesus is one of the most well-preserved archaeological sites in Turkey. Originally an ancient Greek Ionic city built in the 10th century B.C., Ephesus grew to become the largest metropolis and capital of the Roman province of Asia Minor. This political influence and the city’s large Jewish community attracted the attention of the apostles, including Paul. Here, he carried out his mission for two years and was Bishop of the Ephesian Church before he was exiled to Patmos. Today, we will walk on the Marble Road passing numerous historically rich sites including the Temple of Artemis (Diana), the fountain of Trajan, and the Temple of Hadrian. We will also see the Library of Celsus, which adorns the site’s most impressive square, and sit in the theater (the largest surviving from the Roman period). This massive theatre (capable of entertaining up to 25,000 spectators) was the scene of an uprising provoked by a merchant named Demetrius against St. Paul and his teachings (Acts 19:23). Before returning to our Kusadasi hotel, we will stop at the ruins of St. John’s Basilica. Constructed by Justinian in the 6th century, this basilica stands over the believed burial site of John the Apostle. Dinner and Overnight in Kusadasi. DAY 7 Kusadasi, Smyrna, Pergamum, Canakkale This morning, we will drive to the thriving modern city of Izmir and visit the ruins of ancient Smyrna, one of the Seven Churches that the Apostle John relays the promise from God: “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Rev 2:10). Here, we will see what remains of the Agora, the ancient market place that was built in the 4th century BC, before continuing on to Pergamum, one of the most powerful cities in the ancient world. The city rose to prominence following the death of Alexander the Great in 323 B.C. and eventually came under Roman control in 133 B.C. Although the city benefited from immense wealth, in the Book of Revelations, the risen Christ instructs John to convey the message that the people of Pergamum, the site of “Satan’s throne”, needed to repent (Rev 2:13-16). Today, we will tour the Acropolis, which sits atop a 1000-foot windswept mountain, offering a view of the neighboring modern towns, the azure waters of the Aegean, and the ruins of Pergamum that cascade down from the ancient city center. Here, we will explore the Temple of Trajan, Temple of Athena and the Altar of Zeus. Unfortunately, little is left of the altar, which was once among the grandest monuments of the ancient world. In fact, every stone of the structure, including its 400-foot long frieze depicting the battle of the gods and giants, was shipped off to Berlin by German Archaeologists leaving only the altar’s foundation. Thankfully, much more remains of the Great Theatre. Among the steepest of its kind and an acoustic phenomenon, this theatre could entertain up to 10,000 spectators. Nearby are the remains of the famous Library of Pergamum. Once housing some 200,000 scrolls, the library’s collection even exceeded that of the great library of Alexandria before Mark Anthony gave it to Cleopatra as a wedding gift. Afterwards, we will drive to Canakkle for the night. Dinner and Overnight in Canakkale. DAY 8 Canakkale, Troy, Istanbul After breakfast, we will drive to the village of Tevfikiye by the entrance of the Dardanelles to see the remains of the legendary city of Troy. Settled as early as 3,000 BC, Troy was made famous by Homer’s Iliad, the epic account of the Trojan War. Afterwards, we will cross the Dardanelles by ferry and head to Istanbul for the night. Dinner and Overnight in Istanbul. DAY 9 Istanbul, USA Today we say good-bye to Turkey and return to the Ataturk International Airport to board our flight back home. Day by Day PRE-TOUR: BOSPHORUS CRUISE DAY 1 USA, Istanbul Tour members are welcomed for our departing flight to Istanbul via wide-body aircraft arriving the next day. Meals served on board. DAY 2 Istanbul Today we will arrive in Istanbul. We will be met and loaded on our motor coach for our drive to Istanbul. We check into our hotel where we have the rest of the afternoon on our own. Dinner and overnight. DAY 3 Boshphorus Cruise, Asia This morning, we will embark on a cruise of the Bosphorus, the winding straight that separates Europe and Asia and connects the Black Sea with the inland Sea of Marmara. This is our time to relish the views of the old wooden mansions, Ottoman palaces, and ancient fortresses that dot the river’s coast before the ship drops us off in Asia! Here, we will visit Beylerbeyi Palace, which was constructed between 1861 and 1865 during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz as a summer residence for the Ottoman sultans. Next, we will enjoy impressive views from Camlica Hill. At 268 meters above sea level, it is the highest point in Istanbul, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. From the top, we can see the Bosphorus Bridge, the Eminonu Peninsula, the Sea of Marmara, and the Princes’ Island. And if the skies are clear this day, we may also see as far as Mount Uludag near Bursa! Then, we will drive across the bridge back to Europe and return to our hotel. Dinner and Overnight in Istanbul. Day by Day POST-TOUR: MORE OF TURKEY & CAPPADOCIA DAY 1 Istanbul, Antakya, Adana After enjoying our breakfast, we will head to the Istanbul Ataturk Airport to board our flight to Hatay Airport. Upon arrival, we will drive close by to the city of Antakya (Antioch), an important seat of early Christianity. Here, we will visit the Mosaic Museum to see the second largest collection of classical and Roman mosaics in the world. Afterwards, we will head to one of the oldest churches in Christianity, the Church of St. Peter. This church is actually a cave carved into the side of Mount Starius where the first Christians of Asia Minor worshipped. Before returning to our hotel, we will see Selucia Pieria, the ancient port of Antioch from which the Apostle Paul and Barnabas embarked on their first missionary journeys as chronicled by Acts (Acts:13:4). Dinner and Overnight in Adana. DAY 2 Adana, Tarsus, Cappadocia Today, we depart from our Adana hotel to drive to the dusty provincial town of Tarsus. Once the capital of the province of Cilicia, Tarsus was the site where Mark Antony and Cleopatra first met, and is the birthplace of Paul the Apostle. According to Acts, Paul was born “Saul of Tarsus”, but was brought up in Jerusalem and became “Paul the Apostle” after his encounter with Christ (Acts 9:11; 21:39; 22:3). Here, we will visit the Well of St. Paul and the Gate of Cleopatra. Afterwards, we head north to Cappadocia, where we will stop at Pigeon Valley to enjoy a panoramic view of this region’s unique rock formations, popularly known as fairy chimneys. Formed over many centuries by wind and water erosion on soft volcanic rock, these rock formations rise high from the valley floor like chimneys. Early inhabitants of this region carved these chimney tops with birdhouses to collect pigeon droppings long used by local farmers as fertilizer. Dinner and Overnight in Cappadocia. DAY 3 Cappadocia This morning, we will visit the Kaymakli Underground City, the most impressive of the subterranean settlements due to its ventilation system. Afterwards, we are off to explore the Monastic Center of Goreme. This open-air museum is dotted with quaint carved-from-rock churches and chapels embellished with colorful frescoes. Then, we will visit Ortahisar to see its gorgeous valleys and stop at the Three Beauties, the most famous of the region’s many conic rock formations. Today, we will also hike through the valley of Zelve and see its hundreds of carved-from-rock houses and chapels and we will visit Pasabag Valley, also known as Monk’s Valley, to explore its tower-shaped hermitages. We will then end our day at the potter’s studio in Avanos, a town established by the Hittites on the banks of the Halys River. This town has carried on the Hittities’ tradition of pottery that uses the river’s famous red clay to make ceramics. Dinner and Overnight in Cappadocia. DAY 4 Cappadocia, Konya This morning we leave Cappadocia bound for Konya. First, we reach ancient Iconium, where Paul the Apostle and Barnabas invested a lot of their missionary efforts preaching the Gospel despite persecution. According to Acts, they spoke boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders (Acts 14:1-3). Then, we will head to Konya’s city center and visit the Mevlana Museum, which houses the tomb of the great 13th-century Persian poet and founder of the Order of the WhirlingDervishes, Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balkhi. Popularly known as Rumi in Western countries, meaning “Roman” in Arabic, his followers and Muslims alike call him “Mevlana”, meaning “our master”. We will then end our day at the Karatay Museum. This former medrese, or place of learning, was founded in 1251 by the Seljuk emir Celaleddin Karatay as an institution for Islamic studies. However, the building is now a museum showcasing the most beautiful examples of Seljuk tile work. Dinner and Overnight in Konya. DAY 5 Konya, Antioch Pisidia, Antalya Today, we depart Konya and head to the modern town of Yalvac to see the ruins of Antioch in Pisidia. Sitting on the southern foothills of the Sultan Mountains, this city was once a major Roman colony that Paul the Apostle visited on his First Missionary Journey with Barnabas. Here we will tour the archeological site and visit the Yalvaç Archaeological Museum to see a display of many of the site’s discovered artifacts. Afterwards, we will continue onto Antalya, Turkey’s largest international sea resort which sits on the beautiful Mediterranean coast. Dinner and Overnight in Antalya. DAY 6 Konya, Perge, Aspedos After breakfast, we are off to the archeological site of Perge, a chief city of Pamphylia that was visited twice by Paul the Apostle and his companion St. Barnabas (Acts 13:13–14 and 14:25). Here, we will explore Perge’s extensive ruins, including a well-preserved theatre, the Agora, a colonnaded boulevard, Roman baths, a gymnasium, the necropolis, a memorial fountain, and the Greek and Roman gates. Next, we are off to the ancient Greco-Roman city of Aspendos to see the best-preserved theatre of antiquity. Here, we will also see the ruins of a basilica, agora, nymphaeum, Roman aqueduct, and the Roman Eurymedon Bridge before returning to our Antalya hotel. Dinner and Overnight in Antalya. DAY 7 Antalya, USA Today, head to the Antalya Airport to board our flight back home via Istanbul. *The trip will take place in case of a group of 16 people * * The route, as well as the order of visiting places, may be changed due to quarantine restrictions, as well as for safety reasons or due to the weather, road repair work etc. Reviews

DAY 2 Arrive in Tel Aviv and transfer to Bethlehem for dinner and overnight. DAY 3 Follow in the footsteps of Paul and Silas to Amphipolis and explore the ruins of the many Christian basilicas there. In Philippi is a baptismal site commemorating where God opened the heart of Lydia (a seller of purple from Thyatira) to hear the words of Paul (Acts 16:13 -15). Lydia and her household were the first Christian converts baptized on European soil. View the Roman-era crypt thought to have served as a prison for the Apostle Paul, and explore Philippi’s famous Acropolis, marketplace, the Basilica of Paul, and theater. Today’s last stop is Neapolis (Kavala), one of Greece’s most picturesque mainland ports, where Paul landed with his disciples, Timothy and Silas. See the Roman aqueduct and acropolis before returning to Thessaloniki for dinner and overnight. DAY 4 Discover Thessaloniki, where Paul was accused of turning the world upside down with his preaching of Christ (Acts 17: 3 -6). As you explore St. George’s Basilica, believed to be built over the synagogue where Paul preached, reflect on the two epistles the Apostle Paul wrote to the Thessalonian church here. Stroll through the archaeological museum and the beautiful basilicas of St. Sophia and St. Demetrios. St. Demetrios is dedicated to a distinguished Roman proconsul martyred for his Christian faith. Along the Via Egnatia stands the Galerius Arch, where you can look out over the second-largest city in Greece from the Old City Ramparts, some dating back to Roman times. Follow the path of Paul when he fled Thessaloniki for the safety of Veria (Berea), where Jews and some honorable Greeks accepted the new faith (Acts 17: 10 -12). Continue on to Kalambaka for dinner and overnight. DAY 5 Daily Itinerary As you visit the rock forest of Meteora (“in the heavens above”) in western Thessaly, imagine the Apostle Paul walking that treacherous terrain on his missionary journey. Gaze up at the breathtaking Byzantine monasteries spectacularly perched on soaring, sheer-sided gray sandstone pillars. In the 13th century, monks sought refuge in cliffside caves before fleeing higher to build the original wooden shelters that later became these monasteries. After a monastery tour, travel to scenic Delphi, the religious center of the ancient Greek world and marked by the conical stone called the omphalos (“navel”). Walk the Sacra Via to the Athenian treasury, theatre, and the Temple of Apollo, where the oracle performed her prophetic rituals. As you consider the incredible amount of pagan influence just in Delphi alone, you will gain a new appreciation for the tremendous spiritual opposition the Apostle Paul faced in preaching the Gospel of Christ here. In the museum are many ancient treasures, including the fifth-century, bronzed charioteer so detailed you can see his eyelashes. Continue to Athens for overnight. DAY 6 Tour the city of Corinth, where the Apostle Paul met fellow tentmakers Aquila and Priscilla and received a vision from the Lord saying, “I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city” (Acts 18: 10). As Paul spoke, Crispus (chief ruler of the synagogue) and many others believed and were baptized (Acts 18:8), establishing the church at Corinth to whom Paul later wrote his two epistles. Discover the archaeological museum, marketplace, and temples. As you walk among the ruins, stand on the Bema, where the Apostle Paul stood before Gallio to face charges brought against him by the Jews. Stop briefly at the port town of Cenchreae, from which Paul later departed for Syria (Acts 18: 12-18). Return to Athens for dinner and overnight. DAY 7 (Note – Cruise extension passengers will depart from the group this morning and head to Piraeus for their cruise ship) Enjoy the rich architectural splendor of the ancient city of Athens as your guide introduces you to the world-renowned Acropolis, the Propylaea, the Parthenon, and the Erectheum. Whom, therefore, ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you” (Acts 17:23). As you stroll the agora (ancient marketplace and center of Athenian public life), recall that this was where the Apostle Paul preached “Jesus and the resurrection” (Acts 17:18) to the skeptical Athenians. Also, see the House of Parliament, the Presidential Palace, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This afternoon, you are free to explore Athens on your own or enjoy an optional journey to Sounion to visit the famous Temple of Poseidon (an additional $75). Dinner and overnight is spent in Athens. He planted a church here and later wrote to them in his Epistle to the Ephesians. Many of the ruins of Ephesus (known as “the marble city”) have been restored to show the city as it was in the apostle Paul’s time. Visit the agora and imagine where Demetrius the silversmith, sold his silver shrines of the Greek goddess Artemis. Stroll through the great theater where Paul witnessed faithfully for Christ. Not far away is the stadium where chariot races took place and gladiatorial combats were held. Tradition has it that the Apostle Paul himself fought here against wild beasts. Visit the ruins of St. John’s Basilica, where early Christian tradition tells us the “disciple whom Jesus loved” was buried. View one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World”, the ruins of the Temple of Diana (Artemis) before setting sail for the Island of Patmos to visit the Monastery of St. John, high on the mountain overlooking the entire island. Walk down to the Grotto of the Apocalypse and the caves where it is believed that the exiled Apostle John lived and was inspired by God to write the Book of Revelation as well as other letters to the early church. Day 9 – CRETE & SANTORINI Dock this morning in Crete’s port of Heraklion, just three miles away from the fantastic ruins of the Palace of Knossos. Discovered in 1899 and partially reconstructed, the elaborate Palace is believed to be the mythical Labyrinth of King Minos and the seat of ancient Minoan culture. Disembark at Santorini, one of the most beautiful of the Greek islands, where picturesque whitewashed villages topped with brilliant blue domes stand in stark contrast to the sheer drop cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea. DAY 4 THURSDAY Stonehenge, Salisbury, Bath Today we leave London and head west for the mysterious stone circle, Stonehenge, dating back to 3200 B.C. Next, we come to Salisbury and its awe-inspiring cathedral, with the tallest surviving pre-1400 spire in the world. Here we recall the artisans and craftsmen who labored to construct amazing buildings for the worship and glory of God. In the Cathedral Chapter House, we view depictions of scenes from Genesis and Exodus, and see one of only four surviving copies of the Magna Carta. In the afternoon we visit Bath, where we view Bath Abbey, another beautiful and historic cathedral, and the Roman baths, constructed like the Roman bath houses we see in the Holy Land. We also visit the famous “Pump Room,” built in 1790, where 18th century socialites came to “take the waters” for their health. Here in Bath, Jane Austen wrote many of her famous novels about the manners and extravagances of Georgian society. DAY 5 FRIDAY Bath, Bristol, Oxford After a short drive from Bath, we come to the busy city of Bristol, home of William Penn, a Quaker and the founder of Pennsylvania. We will see the New Room, the first Methodist chapel, the home of Charles Wesley, and Hanham Mount, where John Wesley preached some of his open-air sermons in 1738. We will also view the famous orphanages established by George Mueller (now a technical college). In the afternoon we arrive at Oxford, where we’ll have a guided tour of the city and university, including Christ Church from which John Wesley graduated. We’ll visit the spot outside Balliol College where three heroes of the English Reformation (Latimer, Ridley and Cranmer) were burned at the stake. We’ll also view “The Kilns,” the home of C.S. Lewis. DAY 6 SATURDAY Oxford, Scrooby, Austerfield, Epworth, York Today we travel north into Nottinghamshire, stopping first at Scrooby, the “Birthplace of the Pilgrims.” Here, in 1606, dissatisfied with the corruption and lax nature of the Church of England, some religious separatists broke away from the church and its head, King James I, to commit themselves to a simpler way of life based on the teachings of the Bible. We also visit nearby Austerfield, home of William Bradford, America’s greatest Pilgrim Father. Eventually Bradford and Brewster, along with a company of fellow Pilgrims, set sail for America. Next, we travel to Epworth and the birthplace of the founders of Methodism. Samuel and Susanna Wesley lived in Epworth for 39 years, and raised here their 17 children, including John and Charles. We’ll visit their home, the Old Rectory, and the parish church where Samuel ministered. Next, we arrive at York where we will tour the majestic York Minster, which dates from 1220, and see other fascinating sights of this ancient city. DAY 7 SUNDAY York, Durham, Lindisfarne, Jedburgh, Edinburgh Driving north from York we come to Durham and view the ancient cathedral. Next, we have a photo stop at picturesque Lindisfarne, the “Holy Island,” where a monastery was established in 635 A.D., soon after Christianity came to Britain. Crossing the border into Scotland, we come to the lovely village of Jedburgh, and view the remains of its beautiful church, founded in 1108 by King David I of Scotland, and the home of Mary Queen of Scots. Next, we visit the remains of Dryburgh Abbey, beautifully nestled in a secluded loop of the River Tweed. Christianity was established here by missionaries in 600 A.D., and the abbey was built in 1150. Here we can view remarkably well-preserved glimpses of medieval monastic life. Dryburgh is the burial place of the well-known author, Sir Walter Scott. Then onto Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. DAY 8 MONDAY Edinburgh Today we tour the historic city of Edinburgh, home of the Scottish Reformation. We visit 900-year-old St Giles Church, “the birthplace of Presbyterianism,” where John Knox was minister for many years. We also visit John Knox’s home. At the top of the Royal Mile we come to Edinburgh Castle, a military fortress since 900 A.D., situated atop a volcanic crag. The oldest structure in the castle, tiny St. Margaret’s Chapel, was built ca 1100 A.D. It was in Edinburgh Castle that Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to King James VI of Scotland, who became King James I of England, uniting the crowns of England and Scotland. In 1611 James I authorized the English version of the Bible, now known as the “Authorized Version” or the “King James Version.” After our tour of the Castle we continue along the Royal Mile to Holyroodhouse, palace of Mary Queen of Scots. DAY 9 TUESDAY Edinburgh, St. Andrews This morning we drive across the Firth of Forth, past the picturesque fishing ports of Fifeshire, and on to St. Andrews on the northeast coast of Scotland. St. Andrew is the “patron saint” of Scotland, and the “Cross of St. Andrew” is the flag of Scotland. It was in St. Andrews that George Wishart, under whose ministry John Knox was converted, was burned at the stake for preaching the gospel. We will visit the remains of the cathedral, which was begun in 1160 and took over 150 years to complete. During the Scottish Reformation John Knox preached a fiery sermon in St. Andrews parish church, whereupon the congregation went immediately to the cathedral and destroyed many valuable objects and furniture, which they saw as relics of “popery.” We also view the ancient St. Andrews Castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the North Sea. We will also visit the most famous golf course in the world, “The Royal and Ancient.” DAY 10 WEDNESDAY Edinburgh, London, New York This morning we fly from Edinburgh to London, where we board our flight home. *The trip will take place in case of a group of 16 people * * The route, as well as the order of visiting places, may be changed due to quarantine restrictions, as well as for safety reasons or due to the weather, road repair work etc. Reviews
