Meals served on board. DAY 2 This morning we will arrive in Istanbul and transfer to our flight to Tel Aviv. Upon arrival in Tel Aviv we are met by our guide who will be with us for the time we are in the Holy Land. Continue through Tel Aviv, the largest city in Israel. We proceed up the new toll road in Israel to the famous Sea of Galilee where we check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 3 This morning we enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the Sea of Galilee to Capernaum, then visit Tabgha and the Mount of Beatitudes. In the afternoon we follow the Rift Valley running parallel to the Jordan, along the route Jesus most frequently traveled to Jerusalem. We visit Bet Shean at the foot of Mt. Gilboa, where King Saul was slain, see the evidences of Egyptian, Roman and Byzantine occupations, and view the ancient tel, Roman Theater and church mosaics. Our last stop today will be at the Jordan River where we will have the opportunity to be baptized, then transfer to the hotel in Tiberias for dinner and overnight. DAY 4 “We are going up to Jerusalem.” (Matt. 20:18). We drive west to Nazareth. Traveling through Cana of Galilee where Jesus performed his first Miracle, turning water into wine (John 2). We proceed to Nazareth and Ascend Mount of the Precipice at the brow of Nazareth to an overlooking surveying the Valley of Jezreel, synonymous with Armageddon. We then drive through the valley to the mound of Megiddo, Har Megiddo in Hebrew, which gave its name to Armageddon. We then ascend Mt. Carmel, site of Elijah’s confrontation with the prophets of Baal. From there we drive towards the Mediterranean coast traveling south along the coastal highway to Caesarea by the Sea. We enter Caesarea Maritima to explore this Roman bridgehead to the east, which became the Christian springboard to the west. After the visit this ancient harbor, we board our bus and we head up the historic Beth Horon road (Joshua 10:10) to the Benjamin Plateau, passing ancient Gibeon and continuing on to Jerusalem. Finally, atop Mt. Scopus, we behold majestic Jerusalem. Check in to our hotel for dinner and overnight stay. DAY 5 Today we drive to Masada and ascend by cable car to the magnificent ruins of the fortress where, from 70 to 73 AD, Jewish defenders made their last stand in the Judean revolt against Rome. We see the remains of storehouses, cisterns and a sixth-century Byzantine church. Continuing alongside the Dead Sea, 1300 ft. below sea level–the lowest spot on earth– we proceed to Ein Gedi, where time permitting we will walk the path to see the waterfall in the desert. This afternoon we continue to Qumran. and the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. We will have a stop for lunch and for those that want to swim in the Dead Sea may. We travel to Jericho , the world’s oldest city. From the excavated tel atop the ruins of ancient Jericho we view the lush green Jordan Valley, Elisha’s spring and Qarantal, the Mount of Temptation. We will head up to Jerusalem and return to the hotel for dinner. DAY 6 “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace” (Luke 19:42) We start the day with an orientation to Jerusalem from the Mt. of Olives with an opportunity of a group photograph overlooking Jerusalem. We then walk the traditional Passion walk. We descend to the church known as Dominus Flevit (“Our Lord weeps”). After viewing the Golden Gate, we walk downhill to Gethsemane, where we take time to meditate on the Gospel text. Boarding our bus (If you want you may walk by the tomb of the kings) and get off at a roman road, where we climb Mt Zion to the grounds of a church called Peter in Gallicantu , which affords the best view of early Jerusalem from the west. (Here, the Assumptions Fathers suggest, was the house where the High Priest Caiaphas interrogated Jesus.) We drive to Dung gate and enter where we will stop at the Steps that entered the temple. It was here that Jesus would have taught the disciples. See a video that shows the temple as it was at Solomon’s time. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:10-11). We drive south to the region of Bethlehem, passing Rachel’s Tomb on the outskirts of Bethlehem. We drive to a hilltop for a view of Bethlehem, noting its relation to the rest of the central mountain range, including Jerusalem, as well as to the desert and t he area of ancient Moab. Driving south, we visit Solomon’s Pools, Jerusalem’s main source of water for almost 2000 years. Passing the monastery of Hortus Conclusus (“the sealed garden”) in Artas, we go to Herodion, the palace set in a conical mountain built by Herod to mark his tomb which was in the news lately with the recent discovery of Herod’s Tomb. Note the juxtaposition of the two Kings of the Jews. The King Herod buried in great opulence and the King of the Jews born in a humble manger in Bethlehem sitting in the background of the Herodium. We then drive to one of the possible sites for Shepherds’ Fields. We continue into Bethlehem itself, walking through the restored old town to the Church of the Nativity and visiting the manger and see the cave of St. Jerome. We drive back to Jerusalem for dinner and overnight. DAY 7 “He has risen!” (Mark 16:6) After breakfast we transfer to the Dung Gate, we walk up to the Western Wall Judaism’s holiest site. We ascend to the Dome of the Rock and the al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site of Islam, located on the traditional site of the ancient Temple Mount. It is believed that here is where the Temple once stood. Just to the north we find the Pools of Bethesda (John 5) and St. Anne’s Church, the church is perfectly preserved from the Crusader period– with remarkable acoustics. We then follow the Way of the Cross (Via Dolorosa) through the bazaars to the Holy Sepulcher. From there we walk through the Christian Quarter along the Arab Souks and past the Armenian Quarter. This afternoon we will walk out to the Damascus Gate and go to the Garden Tomb where we will end our day with a special visit and the possibility of having a private communion on the grounds outside the city walls. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 8 This morning we will be taken to the airport for our flight to Istanbul. Upon arrival we will be met by our guide and board our bus. We begin our day with a tour to the magnificent Topkapi Palace once home to the great Sultans; it is filled with treasures and antiquities including twelve thousand pieces of fine Chinese porcelain. Then visit the unique Blue Mosque built in 1609 by Sultan Ahmet. The interior walls are covered with twenty thousand blue Iznik tiles. Our sightseeing continues with Hippodrome and Basilica of St. Sophia, which has inspired architects and religious leaders for over fifteen hundred years. Constructed in 326 by Constantine the Great, it has been a cathedral, a mosque, and now a museum. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. DAY 9 We will begin our day with a morning of shopping at Eminönü’s Spice Bazaar. Also, known as the Egyptian Bazaar, this large covered market has remained the city’s center for spice trade since its creation in the 17th century. In the afternoon, we will embark on a cruise of the Bosphorus, the winding straight that separates Europe and Asia and connects the Black Sea with the in land Sea of Marmara. This is our time to relish the views of the old wooden mansions, Ottoman palaces, and ancient fortresses that dot the river’s coast. Before returning to our hotel, we will visit a local factory to learn about Turkish pastry production. Dinner and overnight in Istanbul. DAY 10 This afternoon we board our flight to Athens. Arriving in Athens we check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 11 This morning we start our tour of Athens by visiting the important modern and archaeological sites in the city of Athens, the Acropolis and neighboring monuments. While driving through the main streets of Athens, we have an opportunity to see other places of interest such as the University, the Academy, the National Library, the Temple of Zeus, the Panathenian Stadium, Omonia Square, Constitution Square and the Royal Palace. This afternoon we drive along the coastal road to Corinth. Continue along the wonderful beach of Kinetta, make a brief stop at the Corinth Canal, then on to ancient Corinth to visit the Museum, the Bema of St. Paul, the Doric Temple of Apollo, the Askeleion, Agora, Lechaion Road, and the Peirene Fountain. Return to our hotel for dinner overnight. DAY 12 This morning we transfer to the airport for our flight back home. We arrive back in the U.S.A and transfer to our flights home with unforgettable memories to cherish always. DAY 4 Ephesus is one of the Seven Churches of Revelation and was once a bustling port town with wide, colonnade-bordered streets and a population of 250,000. DAY 5 The bejeweled capital of Istanbul sits between two continents and is home to 450 mosques. You will visit the famous Blue Mosque with its six minarets and sparkling interior. Walk through St. Sophia (Hagia Sophia), which was the largest church in Christendom for 1,000 years, was built by Justinian (532-537 AD). The church has 107 columns, fossil-embedded, white, marble floors, and beautiful glass mosaics. Today, it is the Museum of Byzantine Art. Continue on to Adare, one of Ireland's most picturesque villages with thatched roof cottages throughout the town. It was here that John Wesley preached to the people of Adare in 1765 from the shade of an ash tree. Today a stone makes the spot where the tree stood. Our next stop will be Ballingrane where we visit the Embuty Heck Memorial Church, built in 1766, where John Wesley visited thirteen times over the years. Continue to out hotel in Killarney, ‘Heaven’s Reflex’, one of Ireland’s most lovely districts. Poets, painters, writers and musicians have never fully succeeded in conveying the varied beauty of form and color of this wonderland of mountains and lakes. DAY 4 SUNDAY Killarney, Ring of Kerry, Killarney Today after breakfast it is off on one of the most beautiful rides you will ever have . . . a full day tour of scenic contrasts from golden coastline to majestic mountains. En route you will see in the distance, 9 miles off Valentia Island, The Great Skellig, an enormous mass of precipitous rock rising sheer out of the ocean to a height of 700 feet. Stone steps, hewn by the ancient monks lead from the ocean to the monastic ruins on the summit. As you continue your Ring of Kerry tour, you will see Derrynane House, the ancestral home of Daniel O’Connell, who was known as ‘The Liberator’ because of his efforts to secure Catholic Emancipation in the 18th-19th centuries. Enjoy a visit to Kenmar where we will have a sheepdog demonstration. Pass through the the unique and lovely country town of Tralee before returning to your hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 5 MONDAY Killarney, Blarney, Cork Today we begin our day with a to visit to Blarney Castle, one of Ireland's oldest and most historic castles. Here we can visit the Gardens and the famous Blarney Stone, believed to have the power to bestow the gift of eloquence on all those who kiss it. Treat yourself to quality Irish-made goods at the Blarney Woolen Mills. Continue on to the port city of Kinsale where we will visit St Multose Church, built in 1190 and which remains in use to this day. The courthouse was used for the inquiry over the sinking of the Lusitania in 1915. Continue on to Cobh where we will visit the Cobh Heritage Center, situated within a beautifully restored Victorian railway station. Here we will learn about Irish Emigration and hear about the ill-fated Titanic and Lusitania. Continue on to. Continue on to Cork for dinner and overnight. DAY 6 TUESDAY Cork, Kilkenny, Dublin We begin our day with a brief walking tour of Cork and the English Market. Continue on to Kilkenny. The medieval heritage is evident in the city’s treasure trove of historical buildings and landmarks, exemplified by the magnificent Kilkenny Castle. Kilkenny is arguably the pre-eminent medieval city in Ireland. Our tour of the city will include the Castle and Cathedral, and the Church of St. Canice. Continue on to Dublin where our panoramic tour of the city will include Christ Church Cathedral, built in 1172, and Phoenix Park with its many monuments. Check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 7 WEDNESDAY Dublin Today our tour of “Dublins Fair City” includes St. Patrick’s Cathedral, built next to the well where Patrick baptized converts on this visit to Dublin. In 1789, Wesley led a large number of Dublin Methodist to the Cathedral for Holy Communion. Next we stop at Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church, the first Methodist chapel in Ireland, and visit St. Mary’s Church, where John Wesley’s first sermon was preached in what was called Evening Prayer. Continue on to the Church Pub, a church Wesley preached at in Ireland. We will view the National Gallery of Ireland, O’Connell Street, then a visit to Trinity College, housing the 9th century Book of Kells. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 8 THURSDAY Dublin, USA We transfer to the airport for our flight home with unforgettable memories to cherish always. Day by Day PRE-TOUR: NORTHERN IRELAND EXTENSION DAY 1 SUNDAY New York, Dublin Today we will meet at JFK International airport for our flight to Dublin, Ireland via wide-body aircraft arriving the next day. Meals served on board. DAY 2 MONDAY Dublin, Belfast This morning we arrive in Dublin where we will be met by our escort. Upon arrive will head north to Malahide Castle, set on 250 acres of park land. This was fortress where the Talbot family lived from 1185 to 1973, when the last Lord Talbot died. Continue to Downpatrick where we will visit what is known as St. Patrick’s final resting place. Here we visit the Heritage Center, giving you a glimpse into the life of St. Patrick. Check into your Belfast area hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 3 TUESDAY Belfast This morning we will enjoy a walking tour of Belfast to view C. S. Lewis’ birthplace and other childhood sites. Belfast has been the scene of much conflict between the Roman Catholics and Protestants, culminating in the “Troubles”. While visiting Belfast, we will see the remains of the famous ship yards where ships like the Titanic were built. Visit the East Belfast Mission where Wesley’s emphasis on reaching the poor and working class people is put into action. The remainder of the afternoon will be at leisure. Dinner and overnight at our hotel. DAY 4 WEDNESDAY Belfast, Londonderry Today we travel along the Antrim Coast where we will experience breathtaking views of the Irish Sea as well as hauntingly beautiful moorlands. The grand finale however is the Giant’s Causeway. Sometimes dubbed “The 8th Wonder of the World”, the Causeway is an amazing sight with its 40,000 basalt columns rising from the sea. Legend has it that the Causeway was the path built by Irish giant Finn McCool to enable him to fight the giant across the Irish Sea in Scotland. We end our day in Londonderry where our tour will help us discover the history of this ancient city which retains its medieval fortification walls dating from 1613. DAY 5 THURSDAY Londerry, Limerick This morning we travel through the charming town of Donegal, with its windswept hills, on our way to Slingo, described by William Butler Yates as the “land of heart’s desire”. Here surrounded by the Ox Mountains, the great poet spent many years of his life. Continue south to Knock, where it is said that villagers saw the vision of the Virgin Mary in 1879 and then on to Galway for a brief stroll through the twisting streets of the old city. Continue on to Limerick where we check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 6 FRIDAY Limerick This morning we will join those arriving from the USA and begin our tour of Bunratty. Day by Day POST-TOUR: SCOTLAND EXTENSION DAY 1 THURSDAY Dublin, Larne, Glasgow This morning head north through scenic countryside to Northern Ireland, making our way to Larne, just outside of Belfast, where we will enjoy a 2 hour ferryride across the Irish Sea to Cairnryan, Scotland. Upon arrival we will be met and transferred to Glasgow where we check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 2 FRIDAY Glasgow, Loch Ness, Iverness This morning our tour of Glasgow begins at the Glasgow Cathedral, also called the High Kirk of Glasgow, and then on to the Burrell Collection Museum. We continue on through Scottish Highlands to Loch Ness, fabled home of the elusive water monster, Nessie! Here we will visit the Visitor Centre and Exhibition and take a 1 hour cruise on Loch Ness. Continue through scenic countryside to Perh where we will cisit Dunkeld Cathedral, begun in 1260 and completed in 1501, and St. John’s Kirk, one of Scotland’s most important burgh churches, and Perth’s most ancient building. DAY 4 SUNDAY Edinburgh Today our tour of the city will include a visit to Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood House Palace, the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen of Scotland. Next we visit John Knox House, reputed to have been owned by John Knox in the 16th century, Princes Street, and St. Giles Cathedral with its distinctive crown steeples. This afternoon we will visit the Luxor Temple on the bank of the Nile as well as the complex of temples at Karnak -- including Amun Temple, the largest columnar structure ever raised. Continue our exploration amid massive columns and inscrutable statues at Luxor’s fertility shrine of the sun god. Then horse-drawn caleches continue to the Avenue of the Sphinxes and Karnak’s colossal wonders.This evening enjoy dinner and a Belly Dancing Show on board the ship. DAY 4 TUESDAY Luxor, Esna, Nile Cruise After breakfast, a ferry boat takes us across the river to the West Bank of the Nile, to visit the fabled Colossi of Memnon. We then continue to the mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, Egypt’s only female pharaoh, and the Valley of the Kings, where we step from a dramatic landscape of sun, sand and rugged mountain peaks into the dark silence of some of the sixty-four tombs discovered here to date. We return to our cruise for lunch. Threading through the Esna Locks, we arrive at Esna an hour later. We go ashore to visit the ornately hewn Temple of Khnum with its gracious, colonnaded vestibule. Return to the ship where we enjoy dinner. DAY 5 WEDNESDAY Edfu, Kom Ombo, Nile Cruise This morning we sail to Edfu where we explore the birth house at the Temple of Horus and other engaging sights. This afternoon we cruise the Nile, enjoying the splendid poolside facilities of our luxurious barge en route to Kom Ombo. In Kom Ombo, see its unique and spectacular temple, dedicated to two gods: Horus, the sun god, and Sobek, the crocodile god. DAY 6 THURSDAY Kom Ombo, Aswan, Nile Cruise This morning we sail to Aswan where we see the Aswan High Dam. We then head for the quarries of ancient Thebes and a chance to walk on the Unfinished Obelisk. After a relaxing lunch on board, we take a sailboat cruise to Elephantine Island and the Aga Khan’s mausoleum. Here the tombs reveal the colossal space concepts of the early Memphis architects. Dinner on board the ship. DAY 7 FRIDAY Aswan, Cairo This morning we will be at leisure before we leave our cruise ship and be taken to the airport for our flight to Cairo. DAY 8 SATURDAY Pyramids, Sphinx, Egyptian Museum, Coptic Cairo After breakfast, our first stop will be at the Pyramids. We will walk around Cheops Pyramid, the largest, that was built approximately 2690 B.C. We also visit the Pyramid of Chephren and see the Great Sphinx, who has stood guard over the pyramids all these years. The Sphinx was carved from a single piece of stone. It is a lion with a Pharaoh’s head thought to be a portrait of the Pharaoh Chephren. Here we will be able to ride a camel by the Pyramids area. Travel through Cairo crossing the Nile to Old Cairo to explore the City’s medina and alabaster mosque. Continue on to visit the greatest collection of Pharaonic treasures in the world at the famous Egyptian Museum. Visit the Old Kingdom Collection, Middle and New Kingdom galleries and Greco-Roman periods and you do not want to miss Tut-Ankh-Amon treasures that visited the USA several years ago. We will go to Coptic Cairo, where we will visit the famous Hanging Church, named “Al-Mu’allaqah”. Continue to the Church of St. Sergi us, a 5th century Coptic Church. Here is where the Holy Family stayed and is regarded by visitors as a source of blessing. We go to the recently restored Synagogue of Ben Ezra. This is the oldest Jewish synagogue in Egypt built in 882 AC. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. DAY 9 SUNDAY Cairo, Home This morning we will transfer to the airport for our flight home with unforgettable memories to cherish always. Именно в этот мегаполис приехал апостол Павел, работал и основал процветающую церковь. Мы посетим археологические раскопки и музей, а также все достопримечательности, связанные со служением Павла. На обратном пути в Афины мы проедем мимо древнего порта Кенхрея, откуда апостол Павел отплыл в Ефес (Деяния 18:18-19). ДЕНЬ 2 СУББОТА - ЭКСКУРСИЯ ПО АФИНАМ - ХРАМ ПАРФЕНОНА - ХОЛМ МАРСА Утром мы поднимемся на увенчанный мрамором холм Акрополь и посетим знаменитые храмы Парфенон и Эрехтейон. Затем прогуляемся на близлежащий холм Марса (Ареопаг) (Деяния 17:22), где Павел произнес свою будоражащую душу проповедь перед гигантами философии, логики и образования и рассказал о надписи: "Неизвестному богу". Visit the Martyrdom Museum and then drive to the Divine Mercy Sanctuary and enjoy a talk given by one of the nuns about St. Faustina.
